a comedy night

it's comedy at your own home tonight!!
Ten presents the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala 2008.

The grumpy day I had today instantly dissapear when Dave 'hughesy' hughes start crackin'. Gokil!

Wil Anderson is, surprisingly, surprising.
The comedy he bring to the stage... hm, entah ya, whether I shud be laughing out loud, atau sensitif about it? Topic of the year, religion, american, taliban, teroris, and david hicks. I always love the guy on 'the glass house', tapii stlh liat standups dia a couple of times... topik yg dia pake selalu around those things. Maybe I take it in too much.
It's true though.. You can escape anything being comedian. I mean, what's there to confront, if they, themselves, aren't saying things seriously? it's comedy for laughs. comedy!

Gara2 abis nonton comedy gala, gue jadi inget dulu waktu kartun Nabi Muhammad lagi hangat2nya di media, gue pernah nulis begini
"Kartun, komedi, karikatur jadi perhatian duniaa!! Akhirnya.
Hey, I'll just be a comedian. I'll have the power and cannot be blamed for anything cos what's to blame, I'm not serious. Really."

And then on TV showed us this scene of Rove Mcmanus interviewing Kevin Rudd.
balik lagi ke paragraf yang gue tulis itu, Dua manusia dari kubu berbeda. satu (1/2) stand-up comedian, satu lagi politisi pemimpin negara.. ada di satu ruangan, face to face. it's like watching the presidential debate, with a twist. My head keep having images of a collaboration of presidential debate and comedy gala all at the same time. wakakkaak..

apa sih gue? ngoceh gak penting begini. coretan2 bodoh.

Anyhoo..
my faves of the night of comedy gala, of course, dave hughes, stephen k amos, julia morris, arj barker. some i cudnt remember the names. Si bintang2 besar kyk rove dan jason byrne tadi malem hambar banget. komedinya kurang greget. herannya, jason byrne dapet beberapa standing ovation, which was totally unnecessary, I reckon.

The comedy festival's still going 'til 13 April. I was thinking of going to one of the shows. but due to lack of knowledge on the performers, I cudn't decide whose shows I should go to. If I knew about the Gala, I'd go for it than the individual shows. Akmal Saleh didn't appear on the Gala though. He has his own show at the Forum. Maybe I'll get a ticket to his performance?

(Thinking..)

Bytheby, maaf ya isinya mungkin bingungin. gue gak kasi2 tau ditel mereka2 siapa dan performance2 mereka bagaimana (males cari!)
tapiihhh.. saya sisain sedikit celetukan2 gokil mereka di comedy gala tadi..

Mark Watson

"I live in the UK. the world's capital of anger"

Jeff Green

beli yuk beliii...

sebentar lagi gue mo pindahan rumah..
gak pernah gue pajang apa2... karena takut bakal ngerusak si dinding dan berhubung apt2nya bukan punya gue jadi dindingnya harus putih polos bersih seperti awal gue masuk. this leads to me being paranoid of something (anything!) touches the wall! i once hang a photo with a bluetag, which this sticky thing with blue colour but easily removed. the thing left marks on the wall when the photo fell on its own. jadi kesimpulannya, udah gak lengket, false advertising, dan ngotor2in dinding gue!!!

anyhooowwwww!!

gue inget di ruang tamu temen gue ada poster-framed audrey hepburn. it looks great on her living room. i then consider on getting one. kalo audrey hepburn doang sih banyak ya dimana2. jadi gak pusing.

tapi abis liat blog om gue yang sok2an naro hasil popart-an dia bergaya warholian, gue jadi mikir -- KNP GAK NARO ANDY WARHOL AJA???????????
sesorean tadi iseng browsing cari2 poster andy warhol.
ternyata ya bok! MAHAL jreng!

I like this one

dan ini cuma poster!!
lumayan gede sih: 60x 60cm art print on high quality paper

sweet.

another option, slightly cheaper one, is of the beatles.

keren kan keren kan???
size: (width: 84cm x height: 59cm)=(width:33 inch x height: 23 inch)
paper: Printed on photo matte paper - fade resistant inks

ini lbh lebar dari yg tadi dan lbh murah.. tapi belinya di ebay sih and auction. so it could be on higher price if anyone else also bid.

kalo si temen sarannya beli yg warhol. she said its more sophisticated dan pastinya lbh keren. hmm agree. tapi masih stuck on price. =D

you know what i actually did after?
I then hop-on to.... IKEA's website! LOL
they have quite a collection of wall decoration, painting, posters and all sorts. they're not bad. just, ordinary.

well, option is this
ordinary but affordable.
sophisticated but costs extra.

pilih mana?

better yet, anyone kind enough to wrap it up for me as birthday gift????? tiga minggu lagi loohhh ;) ;)

wakakkakakaa ngarepp!!!!

bantuin pilihin aja deh..
ada options yg lain juga sih

pilih yang mana hayooo???? =)

what's in a name?

something i just discovered this early morning.
I thought my name is quite unique... wait, hang on, lemme finish.. by unique i mean here in Australia. If I were named melissa, or emma, then prolly we'll find those of similar here in the country.

Quite funny when someone mistaken me for another person just because we have the same first name. I thought I left Indonesia.

Apparently it's true.
Australia has too many Indonesians living here!!

the whatever entry

the week just startin'.. Uni started midbreak last friday. The streets of cbd feel emptier than usual. What can you do, eh? its long weekend easter break. Poeple have ran away to someplace nice, someplace fancy, someplace sunnier. They left the metro-life for a quick sip of countrysides.. maybe.

Nah, you wouldn't find this entry about me whinging on not doing anything out-there for this long weekend. My previous entry had cover that perfectly.

Instead, I'm writing about.. you know, things.

Finished reading curious incident of a dog in the night-time. It's a good book. very light reading without dismissing any intriguing and smart entries in each chapter. Mark Haddon had been spot-on in his writings to take us into a life of an austistic boy precisely through this boy's view. Every step you take, you feel as if you're in Christopher's head and watching things through his eyes, thinking things through his mind. That's how detailed Haddon's description of a life of Christopher, without having to twist your eyebrows by random big words and sophisticated english. Although, I skipped most parts about maths. I dont need to know that. =D It's good. It's good. my type of reading, indeed.

Did I tell? I'm moving house again later next month. *sigh
Long story short, I sorta got cheated by the real estate agent and the landlord. I hate moving house. Having all things sorted out again, disconnect - reconnect this and that, pack-unpacking, removal, and money money money. I have to go through all those things again just within 6 months gap since the last. How annoying! Don't really fuss on where to go now. I'd go west, north, east, whereever. as long as the agent is legit and landlord isn't as sneaky as the one we have now. We've been looking for apartments like crazy since early this month. None had given us good replies as yet. Reading the news about Melbourne's real estate doesn't help either. Apparently, something about interest rate and investment property isn't mesh up well this time of year in Melbourne. In a nutshell, bad timing for shifting apartments! especially for rentals. uh yeah youre tellin' this now???

It's true though. Every open inspections we went, the crowds were massive. Imagine this, for a small apartment in a locally busy street, as much as 40 people would turned up! Just to see the apartment is overpriced, really really old, but on a high-end suburb. That's what you get for living in SOUTH YARRA! I'll pass.

They say that hundreds even thousands of people coming to city or inner city every week. They, undoubtedly, need a place to live. Hence, real estate agents are running out of supply to provide them shelter. True story.
They (estate agents) are throwing ads on internet in need for LANDLORDS to give 'em their houses to rent. This is how chaotic the situation has been. Well, unless you're ready being charged overpriced, there are plenty vacant apartments near CBD. That is, if you're willing to pay above $400 per week for a 2 bedder. I would, but divide it by 3, for another housemate will sneak in and stay with us to share the rent. hihihi sneaky sneaky sneaky. Anyone here knows estate agent in melb, hush you!

Beginning tuesday, ie. tomorrow, I'm inspecting 2 properties. and thats how the week will go by for me. Inspections Inspections Inspections. not to mention, have to kiss ass to those agents just to get good impressison of off them. That'll be fun.

Luckily, work's been ok. workmates are, strangely, very nice to be around with lately. Maybe I've changed hence all things around me seems exciting (exclude house-hunting and annoying estate agent).

Oh almost forgot.
Teach me how to flirt, anyone? hehehehe. Nothing personal, really. Just this coworker of mine, he's very flirty. I've run out words since we've been working many shifts together. I don't grew fond of him, personally, but you know.. a little tease couldn't do no harm, could it?
hmm.. intinya gini deh, kyk berbalas pantun, tapi kali ini berbalas flirting. haha does that make sense? =D I know it's childish, but hey, whatever makes our job fun and shifts finish faster.

and a hint, i'm wayyy clueless on this flirting thing.
any experts? gimme a shout ok ok ok ;;)
be waiting.

and yes. this is for real.

So I'll leave it at that.
My whatever things have been laid down..
Had nothing else to write....

oyasumi nasai.

i'm bored outta ma mind!!

man, It really is a very very very long weekend.

beauty isn't what it seems..

you know sometimes beauty is what you see. it's easier that way.
thats how beautiful people are snappy easy to become models. When the canvas is already that flawless, photographers are only to follow up from the basic lines.

Make a masterpiece out of unpolished objects, now thats a beauty.
You see chaos but captured them into something more refined means you see the beauty that others don't see.

That I called, an artist.
The true beauty doesn't always presented vividly in front of your eyes.
Do honesty works better on canvas, or the indisputable exotic looks?

Christopher
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

hmm.. didn't realize easter is coming.

reminisce of last year's easter. I WAS IN LAS VEGAS!! and now? I'm stuck in Melb... doing nothing. how the opposite. hff!
not that things were extravagant in vegas last year, but at least, things were extremely different.
a walk on the strip and saw a different view of mixed culture. Massive crowds of mexicans, or "madur" to some Indonesians, are everywhere on the strip.

We road-trip from LA. During the 3 (??) hours trip, a friend's car was pulled over by cops twice! tough luck eh? Some said its the end of the month so cops are on deadline for cashing up. kalo bahasa Indonesianya, kejar setoran! =D Funny, innit? to hear this term for police officers as if they're bus drivers here in Indonesia. well different country, different culture.

anyway, back to roadtrip. We made a few stops along the way. except to eat and get petrol, we stop.. ehem ehem... where else but factory outlets! Couldnt remember the name of the FO though. Apparently, they have a lot (and i mean A LOT!!) of FOs in the states. Heck, all my shoppings came from there! mouth says savings, head says.. not really! =D It's quite unusual for me to see branded items are placed in FOs. We don't see those kinds enter DFOs here, do we? When you see the label Factory Outlets, your mind has its own frame-set that tells "cheap cheap cheap". Ergo, cashing out all you have to items that you think are cheaper, but honestly, they're not really, are they?

We shopped like no tomorrow. split up into groups and we went our own ways. Gila!! and thats what you called shopping on a fast track!

Just one step away entering the las vegas strip, we took a quick stop for dinner at this chinese arcade (i think). Our "couple" friends had an argument, over the dinner place. one said the strip is classier, the other said no biggie where we eat. silly, really.

Had chinese for dinner (the food, not the people!). off we go, and finally, We're in VEGAS baby!!
I felt like "orang desa masuk kota!!" norak, i know.
You know what, since departed from LA I still didn't know where we are to stay in Vegas.
Not until we enter one of those giant hotel in the middle of the strip. yes people, apparently our friends booked us up at the Venetian!!! sungguh gila. I was thinking of something mid-to-low range hotel, but not this!!! Although, I don't regret one bit. HAHAHA (kapan lagiiii!!!)
And to no surprise, we ended up in a double-bed room with 8 people in it!!! imagine how we sleep at night eh?? luckily, the sofa bed did a lil magic and made space for the 8 of us in the room. just.

Their plan was to clubbing all weekend. Not really my type of itinerary. So just a couple of us went out for a stroll outside the Venetian. The weekend went through by missing out on Tao and the Palm, just becos I was stupid enough to leave my passport in LA!!!!!! apparently, other IDs are not valid anywhere in vegas. D'oh! Spent a worthy few hundreds for shows at the Venetian and Paris Las Vegas. First off, the Producer at Paris and, just hours before heading back to LA, we made it to see Phantom of the Opera at the Venetian. Don't care what everyone say, theyre worth the cash!

Sadly though, I didn't really venture out the strip from start to end. Missed out on something happening inside Wynn (ada apa sih di dalem Wynn??), didn't even wait for the caesar palace's fountain to do its show and late for the pirate's show at treasure island. Turis banget ya gue?? =D heck i don't care. It aint like once a year i'd be going there anyways. But i'm surely going there again someday. To see all the cirque du soleil's shows!!!!!!!!!! ;)

So basically, yeah thats what I did on easter last year.
compared to this year's, last year was way better!!!
it's been a year, i can't believe it! A year ago I was off to countries I've never been, and you could say... by myself.

If there were time machine, I'd go back to last year and make the easter break a glass half-full adventure. Ah to hell with time machine, just gimme enough dosh to pack my bags and jet off to someplace new. To rekindle the past year's adventure in present time.

Actually, I could.
Off to Germany this year. but after browsing the web for air fare, apa daya saya tidak mampuuu!!! freakishly expensive to travel from melb to koln! Don't know where Koln is, but thats where a friend will have her company's annual meeting and the meeting point for us, if I were to join her. The idea is very tempting. and i mean, extremely tempting! If I don't care about saving up my past months income, I'll be getting my luggage and start packing. =D

too bad miss d, prolly next year you can ask me again? hehehe.. *ngintil mulu ya gue?????*

I wish to do something this easter break, something fun and unfortunately has to be in Melbourne. I just can't get any ideas in mind..
thoughts, anyone?

ngakak jaya

"mama mama, tolong tolong... nyelip celananya!!!"

mwahahahhaahhahahaha
juara deh punya ponakan gokil bgitu!!! =)) =))

Word of the day: APPROVED.

Imagine this: You're at a supermarket and ready to Eftpost (debit card) your purchase. Swipe, click-clack, OK. Screen says "APPROVED".

this shabby guy then said,

"Hm, It's Good to be Approved."

poor guy.

Dry humour eh? =D

Laskar Pelangi

AKHIRNYA!
aku selesai baca buku iniii.. !!

yeah, it took me that long to finish it!! although in between i've finished two other books -- ayat ayat cinta & radikus makankakus (yang terakhir bacaan boker banget deh, sangat ringannn!! hahaha).

A cousin introduced me to this book, saying its the bestseller of the year (2007 to be exact!). As I was desperate for another choice of read besides those chic-lit wannabes, I took the book off Gramedia in a heartbeat. Didn't know what the book's about or why it's a bestseller. pokoknya mah grab wae lah!

You all know what this book is about. at least, synopsis can tell you that.
I won't be summarizing or paraphrase it into another paragraph here.

The book -- Laskar Pelangi. the first of the tetralogy.
I like:
the choice of words, metaphors, strong characters with very distinct and varying personalities.
Dislike:
Cara penulisannya terlalu membingungkan.
Its not science literature, nor romance literature, or just plain fiction. tapi campur aduk! bukan berarti having mixed genre is all-together bad. it's just hard to follow.
dalam 1 bab, baru bbrp halaman topik udah berubah.. and then midway it goes back again to main topic. I'm not saying I'm an expert on analyzing literature. That's just how I feel when and after reading it.

Gara2 itu, dari awal sampai mid-end of the book gue masih merasa datar dan bosan. not at all intrigued to what the next chapter would give me. MId-end to ending of the book is where all the great things came to life! Flo came in. thats when things become more colorful. Interesting really, since she doesn't appear til quite the last bit of the book. her role at the end of the book don't really appear much, either. But throughout the book, whenever she appear, her character always outshines the others.

Sebagian bilang Laskar Pelangi ini semi-biografinya Andrea Hirata. Sebagai anak Belitong dan pernah sekolah di SD Muhamadiyah juga, as well as having had Bu Mus as his inspiring teacher. This is a part of his childhood, perhaps?

First off, Belitong. I mean c'mon!! as far as I know, buku yang menjamur belakangan ini kalo gak berlatarkan kota metropolitan.. ya berplesir ke negeri2 antah berantah.

Like saying, Indonesia ain't just Jawa, people! Haha. Nah, thats a joke. or maybe true? Saya yang termasuk buta geografi (especially geografi Indonesia!) dan culturally illiterate, jujur aja nggak tau kehidupan masyarakat pulau2 lain selain jawa dan bali. Disuguhin Andrea dengan Laskar Pelangi, its truly an eye-opener for me. I see things run differently in the other part of the island.

Satu hal yang agak2 ngusik rasa penasaran gue..
apa iya ada seorang yang sangat jenius seperti Lintang? you know, given his circumstances. Mungkin yang dimaksudkan, pintar and not entirely super genius. Or maybe there is? I'm really skeptical on this one.

The ending of the book is quite a cliff-hanger.
Then I thought, prolly thats where the tetralogy play its role?
End of Laskar Pelangi will be explained thoroughly on Sang Pemimpi, maybe?

Laskar Pelangi ends without a bang. it goes smooth sailing as it was the beginning.
It don't play beginning, climax and end sequence in particular. Maybe thats how Andrea sees the journey of life. It don't need a smooth entry, dramatic climax, and end with a bang. Sometimes journey is just as it is. Berjalan aja.. Flow on its own nature.

I dont quite see Laskar Pelangi as inspiring.. but more an eye-opener. Good read, though.

and I was thinking....

who would you choose: superheroes or their sidekicks?

the megastars of the centuries are always the leading heroes.. some of them even prefer flying solo against crimes. to them a man's is an island, perhaps?
thats right. the more power their entitled to, the more ego grew within.

although they're the story of the night but off the job don't they seem like a bunch of snuck-ups?

the playing cool and down-to-earth extravagant were unbelievable to these pair of synical eyes.
superheroes --the tall, lean, beautiful persona delivered to our big screens are the image of the perfect candidate of who we want to be rescued by. ain't that a cliche?

on the other hand, the sidekicks are mere assistants to these superheroes.
eek! wrong.
they do almost the same jobs as the superheroes. the only thing lacking from them is the full-throttle exposure to the media and public attention.
given that, they'd be getting more gugugagas than their big-boss, Mr. Superhero.

I heart the sidekicks.
If to choose Peter Petreli over Hiro Nakamura, I'd choose the latter.
If to choose Vincent Chase over Eric Murphy.. no competition, i'd go instantly for the second!
and the big man of all..
if to choose Batman over Robin... err, do i need to say?

The stars as their emblem don't quite matter.
Besides, the more famous these superheroes have become, the longer the lines tailing on their back. dramas dramas dramas.
now, who would want that?

needless to say,
my vote goes to the sidekickers shadowed by the big-man.

who do you vote for?

the Darjeeling Limited

The darjeeling limited.
you don't acknowledge big on the casts, the story, nor the fact of everything Indian.

you do however must understand Wes Anderson's visionary of a film.

A Jack who got played by his ex (Natalie Portman).

***Psst, you get to see Nat pose nude in this short-film. Boys, be cool.***

Scene terhenti setelah mereka berdua menikmati Paris.

Mengejar kereta. Satu kereta dengan nama "The Darjeeling Limited". di India. Berlari. Mengejar Kereta.
(hehe biar seru diulang ulang.)

Disitu muncul................ Adrian Brody.
He got on the train.
Even til then, audience are left unknowingly of where is this going and what's this had to do with Hotel Chavelier in PARIS???
Penonton..... bingung.
Sukses.

The door compartment says Whitman.
There, Peter Whitman (Adrian Brody) entered. Fast forward, three men -- Jack (Jason Schwartzman), Peter (A.Brody), Francis (Owen Wilson) are the Whitman bros. Persuaded by the eldest, Francis, to take on a "Spiritual Journey" for the three bros to rekindle their brotherhood, which had been lost a year ago following a passing of someone dear.

Why India? Although might refer to the added spiritual means of the journey, but there's another reason behind it all. A very sentimental reason.

Mungkin yang bener2 diliat dari sisi sinematografinya, which I wont include due to limited knowledge of oneself in film-art. =D

Anyway, karakter si tiga bersaudara ini keliatan banget bedanya. Si kakak, Francis, sangat bossy dan controlling over his brothers. Si tengah, Peter, dont wanna be boss around by Francis, and cold-feet over his new status as a dad. Si bungsu, Jack, the unlucky in love.

Theyre there for each other now. Awwh. =D

The bags were previously owned by the brothers' dad. Having them on the journey meant carrying the past into their lives.
And after, they left the bags intentionally on a stranded Indian terminal, ready to move on with their lives. leaving the past behind.

Francis: "Dad's bags aren't gonna make it."

And they just deserted the bags on the Indian terrain, and wave farewell.

Farewell to the past, maybe.

The Kinks sama The Rolling Stones sangat mendukung jalannya cerita.

Intinya, Gue suka ni film! Santai dan Menyenangkan..

munchiesmucker!

"if you go banana split and let the ice fell on everyones lap, you know they wont tolerate."

a story of the gingerbread man who looses his button. A smiley turns to frownies. The gingerbread man stood still over the counter, no-one desires to take him off the shelf..
a trivial incident of a lost button made him lost his giddily-gooddily charisma.
he refuses to be a snack, today. "you are all no better than me." he mumbles. and from then on, he'd turn a blind eye on their judging (and/or bewildering) eyes. he don't care.

on the other side of town, a couple of eggs wasnt so sunny side up this morning. they were too runny and very distasteful for a morning feast. the entire day had begun with a murky pothole not to leave someone's shadow.

the murky-pothole-shadow storms out for the day's chores. the muck of depression it brought in interlude with frowny gingie-man. noone could ignore the sombre mood that they both have instantly cooked-up. they would displease everyone that lay eyes on them.

"why treat them any better than they would ever treat us?" a rhetorical that both agrees.
The idiosyncratic thought was then thoroughly embraced. And thats how today has been to 'em both.

you needn't to understand it. All there is to know, it started from a spoiled banana split that happened just over midnite.
a whole afternoon later, it's still unsure if gingie had the last say or was it murky-pothole-shadow who owns the day.

the entire narration has been suited for a PG (parental guidance)-rated munchiesmucker, instead of the other sibling the M*f*ker, which is rated MA (mature adult).

if anyone can decipher..
you're so awesome! =)
