First of all, I admit I'm a musical snob. I don't know the technicalities to produce a musical, but I am an avid audience of musical theater.
I have watched a number of Musicals - popular and off-broadway/ish. I went mostly those in Melbourne, but I've been to a couple of musicals in Las Vegas.
That above, was not a snob moment.

Ali Topan the Musical is the first musical theater I saw in Jakarta.
It is produced by Artswara, owned (or lead?) by Ari Tulang. Famous Indonesian choreographer.
Ali Topan is not an original script for this musical. It came from an old novel, famous on the late 70s-80s.

I watched Ali Topan the Musical with my mum. It's said R 18+, strictly adult only. I was not aware of what the scenario would be. Some friends know I will watch it with mum. They went to the show before me and warned me of some explicit scenes that may raise awkwardness. You know, some things that you should not share with your parents. Ali Topan, they thought, is one of them.
I'm told that for a theater in Indonesia, the act is quite wild, vulgar, and explicit. I was a nervous-wreck to watch this with mum. Thinking, how wild could it get for Indonesian theater? Sex? Nudity? My mind goes from Equus, to Chicago, then Rent. I was ready to leave after intermission if it's even close to Equus.
Luckily, it's close to Rent.
So we stayed.
For anything publicly showed in Jakarta, Ali Topan the Musical yes indeed very controversial. For bravery and being original, that I respect, Ari Tulang.
However, I have some bitter comments about the Musical itself, in terms of what me as audience saw - music, vocal, act, props.
The above category, need something more edgy. Sorry, not for music. Music is fantastic!
Music shows the energy and emotion on scene, however, the casts could not intertwined with the music and bring it onto the stage. I couldn't feel the emotion, the gesture.
The most spectacular casts on this musical are not the lead casts, or their friends. But small supporting roles, such as Mbok Yem, Bibi Seksi, Ibu Surya, and one of the genk perek. They outshines the leading casts, though they only have small part, they bring out the character. I can feel their characters.
Ali Topan and Anna Karenina, what to say..
They have good voice, but not enough for Musical. Kikan's vocal is too distinct as Cokelat's lead singer and difficult to see her otherwise. Dendy's vocal for Ali Topan is too flat, I couldnt feel the emotion, the anger, the disappointment, the heartbreak. When I see theater, I want to see emotions through movement, gesture, since I couldn't see very well of your face expression. That's how it differs from TV acting. I couldn't see this stage performance from Dendy.
Face wise, Dendy is too clean-cut as rebel boy Ali Topan. I expect someone rugged, more manly.
The transgenders characters on stage, I know what these characters are there for. However, in Ali Topan the Musical they do not make the performance more artistic or comical.
The script is vulgar. The speech, but it did not make me uneasy or disturbed. Because, they don't express it well. With exception to the Tante Girang and Gula-Gula dancers! They bring the scene oh too well! I can see and feel how hungry these horny cougars are!! Bravo. Only one thing bugs me, the gula-gula dancers are just. too. gay. Whilst, they should be cougar eaters! You boys should be thanking the Tante Girang. They saved your performance and make it believable.
This scene, i was quite awkward towards mum.
However, the most anticipated scene. Intercourse Ali Topan and Anna Karenina. Yeah, they did it on a motorbike. Honestly, by all warnings I gotten from friends, I was expecting a lot more than just dry hump. Even for dry hump, Kikan and Dendy are not believable. By the end of it, I was, what? THAT'S IT?!
This was, not at all awkward wif mum.
One thing I always anticipate when going to theater is that the stage props. I'm always amazed by how they put effort not just on performance, but also things that audience many not considered. That is, stage decor.
For a stage theater, Ali Topan the Musical sat in bottom three (stealing Idol words). They have very minimal props! They also count on projectors and screens to create the fantasy. That's not stage performance!!! If i thought this what Indonesia can present for its theater, I would be very tolerable. But I've been to Teater Koma and they have spectacular stage decor! They built every detail they need to create the imagination. I don't want you producers to built the image for me, let me create those on my own, by your decor, by your casts, by your music, by your lighting, by your performance.
I have to say, though, Ali Topan the Musical is good effort to raise public knowledge of Theater Musical. But to me, Ali Topan the Musical is just like watching SCTV Award on TV with better vocals.

Why do I took interest in this cycle 14?
because they had a photo-shoot in New Zealand.

Yes, UGG boots to Aussies (and I guess for Kiwis too?) are hideous. I heard one of my lecturer, who is Australian, said that UGG boots are bogan's boots. LOL that just cracked me up, cos when she said so I was wearing a pair of UGGs! there were no uggs be seen in her class ever since.
So, models-wannabe, don't ever proudly wear your UGGS downunder.
No matter how comfy those boots are. Models are not supposed to wear comfy.
Or so I thought.
Facebook on Spotlight
Facebook took its' deepening effects in Indo-land! Although they came late.
I'm sure you know what I meant.
The media has been spruiking on about children being missing because of Facebook. These children are on Facebook constantly without guidance from parents.
Having said that, I remember back when I was in Junior High (about their age), I began to explore my curiousity for the Internet. Back then, we have yet to discover Social Networking. It was basic chatrooms, messenger, and emailing. Those 3 socializing media have instantly put myself - a young teenager in Indonesia - to a world so wide, next to random strangers. Hence, I became familiar with the term 'kopdar' or 'kopi darat', which basically means 'meeting up with someone we know online'. Luckily, I have never been that brave to meet these 'online friends' by myself. I've always asked someone to tag along. Kopdar could be harmless or could not. Depends on the individuals (of course).
Worst scenarios. Such cases have raised high attention to Police and Government. The issue of Internet Crimes against children has been a major concern in the western countries, one of which is Pedophilia in the Internet. Adults who have sexual preference for children are everywhere, ANYwhere. That being said, they can easily be your next door neighbour or someone you trusts dearly to keep your kids safe. The Internet is merely keeping a mask for them, a protection from sneering public eye.
Throughout the years, Federal Police and citizen have joint arms to dispose these two-faced criminals. The support asked to citizen is to guidance their children when using Internet, especially on social networking such as Facebook.
Unfortunately in Indonesia, awareness of the issue still smells fresh to our government and citizen. Internet - especially mobile Internet - has just come to our hands since a couple years back. Indonesians are famous for being gadget-minded, emphasize on status and not tech-savvy. Therefore, middle to upper class individuals have encountered to mobile Internet, which means easy access, fast information and higher society status. The said demographic also include their children, from the primary school age up to high schoolies. Some of these parents, having the income, status and knowledge, surprisingly, aren't aware of the effects of mass information for their underage children.
Culturally speaking, Indonesians of the aforementioned society level are indulged with 'house-assistants' in their homes to help with -not only- house chores, but also raising the children. Other circumstance, parents tend to pamper their children without limits. Being raised under similar circumstance, I do understand the behaviour some of these children are experiencing. For instance, lacking guidance and understanding the word 'NO' in their daily activity.
Back in the old age, where Internet is lacking and considered luxury, parents of Generation Y didn't think Internet would be any danger to their children. They would think, what's there to worry about? The kids are at home with their family. Some of these parents have zilch experience with Internet.
Parents' zero knowledge is what keeping the pedophilias in the Internet wildly exploring their sexual needs. That happens up until now, although Internet has been delivered to our hands, with speedy access. Given today’s breaking news of missing children, the parents are left bewildered and started to blame on Facebook.

These parents knew not of their children's "friends' on facebook (or Online). Logically, these kids also barely know who these "friends' are. Sorting the good friends from bad based on online chats isn't easy. I mean, how well you could know a person whom you only talk with your fingertips?
Indonesia is just encountered by such matters. Parents, who are Generation X and baby bloomers are made aware of the concerns of Cyber world, the world that is barely visible to them.
This being said, as silly as it is, Facebook to the western world has made entry into family disturbances. The news that made headlines was about "Facebook Divorces". In Indonesia, too, this made headlines. But the coverage wasn't as high alert as the missing children.
The cases of missing children or abused children as effect of Internet, although very alarming both in Indonesia and the west, could easily vanish in forthnight by the media. Then comes the next headlines, Facebook intervenes into marriage life.
When the cases of Facebook against missing children fade away in Indonesia (that is when the media gains no ratings from it), how soon we would hear them spruiking news of Facebook against the sanctity of marriage to appear in the news?

In Indonesia, that could raise some serious concerns because marriage is a serious government issues. We have MUI and Department of Religion to be kept busy.

You can even put big poster up there, proudly announcing Andy Soraya and Trio Macan as the casts, and You, KK Deeraj, Sir as, what, producer? writer? director?. That poster can also include the casts' boobs hanging out, or if you want, your man-boobs, by all means please.

The House.
there's been raving media coverage on inagauration of the newly elected members of house of representatives.
Newspapers have shown images of these new members taken their 'job' down to the aid of sleeping beauty.
It's not so surprising that majority of them wouldn't be so concern about and for the People.
It's not being skeptical to our 'changing' nation's politics, but it came from a very true fact. An insider fact.
Someone very close has been elected as house of rep. And his wife bluntly speaks 'Alhamdulillah, at least for the next 5 years we could get salary and husband only busy for the first month so I don't need to move so faraway out of Java island.'
That translates: I'm getting the people's taxes for my benefit. My hubby only needs to be far for a mere month, while the rest he can be with us in Java, relaxing and receiving salary.'
Although I don't blame them. He was someone important in the Police force. OK, understandable he needs post-retirement activity and salary to feed wife and young kids. He is somehow still has power in the force, so he's slightly eligble to be in the House. Although his interest is never about or for the People. I understood his reasons.
But not for younglings under 25 yo to be elected as members of the House. Out of college with no play in politics or have had any hands-on experience in the society. He won only by splurging daddy's dosh up to billions. Play visits and rubbing hands to major sweet talks made him a winner. Their interest, up to my understanding, is and never was about or for the People but only to their mounted balance deposits.
The latter members of the House don't surprise me. I find them as unfading history.

Online Shopping
I'm sure gazillion people have bought something online. I am one of those gazillions.
I've went through eBay and few others online webs based overseas. The few times I interacted with sellers online, the communication between us always run smoothly and... polite.
Then I got home.
And I experience a whole different interaction between buyer and seller. In plain word, sellers are in charge. They don't please customers as they shouldve been treated. I guess shopping online here don't differ much with shopping on brick and mortar. Have you noticed shop assistants recently? They plain ignore you and don't take queries seriously.
Same goes to online shops. Although, of course, not all of them are as such. Its generally speaking.
But what I'm saying here, culture and customer service do play direct role in business. Overseas know how to run online etiquette and since no personal contact, our interaction is limited to monitor and keyboard, which is more passive interaction. Unlike here where mobiles are the most preferred contact, which requires both parties to interact actively, ergo each party wants instant replies as if we have no other things to do besides to fulfil each other's needs until all errands completed.
And that, is troublesome.

Briefly, Farah Quinn. Chef on Ala Chef show in Trans TV. I have to admit, the lady can cook, but for her to be a 'chef', I'm no judge to that.
But that's not what made her huge in Indonesia. No. Her massive stardom was enhanced by another (err, two others?) enormous personal assets. Her boobs.

Yes, I'm blogging pageant.
Miss. Kerenina Halim, is chosen to represent Indonesia this year to be the next Miss World 2009. Beauty-wise, she has very distinct Indonesian face, although genetically she's half American by her mother side.
Upon watching the final Miss Indonesia 2009 on TV, which happened few months ago, Ms. Kerenina was proven to show a calm, good presentation, spot-on answers and very native english. At this point, she's almost flawless as a finalist and believed will win without a doubt.
And she did.
However, her latter quality backfired.
Kerenina Sunny Halim, a 22 year old Indonesian delegated to represent the country Indonesia as Miss Indonesia in Miss World pageant, speaks broken Bahasa Indonesia and uses English as her native language.
She made news overseas bigger than the Miss World pageant itself.

Ms. Kerenina's best traits and Memen Surprietmen's comment made me wonder,
if they're few of the people who have the chance to make Indonesia known overseas for its true Identity, then what Identity Indonesia is to be seen by the world?
I was once embarrased and was slightly mocked by a Singaporean for not knowing anything about my country, even as simple as "whats the population in Jakarta?" I said 2 Million. (last I check, that was population for Melbourne). This gives you rough idea that a common civilian like I am know very little about our own country and apparently, our reps overseas also bearing the same knowledge.
I am ashamed to have been cornered by foreigner and that's still in Jakarta. Ms. Kerenina will represent us as a Nation to the world on foreign terrain, how would she then feel?
From what I know, beauty pageant is not just about looks and physique. It's also not about politics. Mostly what to represent is a country's social culture, is it not? Then Ms. Kerenina should at least know the answer to: how many population in Indonesia? without googling or phone a friend.
Although not to judge her further, I see a potential in her for being the next Miss World, or at least Top 5 finalists. Maybe that was the judges' consideration to crowned her Miss Indonesia, since we've never gotten the chance to actually win the world's biggest pageant. Maybe hey, Nina could actually got the crown for us this year.
If she does, don't matter if she know not of Bahasa Indonesia.
We got the crown, Indonesia is proud.

Yesterday we noticed a strange occurrence on Twitter: hundreds, if not thousands of Twitter accounts were sending out spam links, all at once. Most of these accounts weren't your usual spam accounts, but regular Twitter users with real accounts, followers, and tweets. Then, the flood suddenly stopped.
We wondered if it was just a strange group of accounts or a one-time attack. Now we're fairly certain that isn't the case. Thousands of compromised Twitter accounts are sending out waves of spam throughout the Twitterverse. The tweets are coming hard, hundreds per minute. Here is a sampling of what's going on:
We aren't sure as to the exact cause. It seems to come in waves, and then it stops. It could be a compromised 3rd party application. It could be an old phishing scam or even the more recent TwitViewer scam. We have emailed Twitter about the issue.
Regardless, if you believe your account is compromised, immediately change your password! In addition, do not visit any of these websites – they can compromise your account further (or worse).
We will keep you updated as we learn more about the situation.

Recently tonight Twitter was down for many hours (mine is yet accessible), while according to Mashable twitter has been stable this year compared to 2007 and 2008.
Then I suddenly consider a friend's view of a local hacker that made these happened. Think about it, only this year Indonesia is flooded with twitter fad. We also know Indonesians are brill on IT, but they're bored and has no media to venture their skills, hence toying with public media. What to become of them? Showing off to recent Internet fad.
Twitter is now one of the fad and after become avid users for few months, I noticed the easy access for bots, phishing, and scams to enter. To these brilliant IT geeks this screams - Hey, why not make chaos?

I read off of somewhere, a friend of Michael said "It's pretty weird saying goodbye to a friend at a place like this (the staples centre)". But to the world, that was the only media we could ever really farewelled to Michael.

I realise that these are small things but they illustrate what's wrong in a wider sense. A lot of people put a great deal of effort into this movie to create great effects and exciting action but the whole thing is led by a man who directs by numbers. Michael Bay thinks that movies are a sandbox and, to some extent, they are. The trick is to create something meaningful from the tools in the sandbox. The first film did that; the second is a sandy imitation."

The impression of Megan Fox when I was watching the movie was well quoted by a toddler not older than 4 yo.
The scene in Egypt where Megan and Shia snuggling on top of Egypt ancient pyramid(?) and she wore only her camisole. The kid next to me suddenly said "yah, gak pake baju lagi deh" (not wearing clothes again).
Just then I realized, for movie about Robots, Transformers 2 isn't made for kiddies at ALL. Especially, with full-on Megan Fox posing for Maxim on every scene.
Though not my usual cuppa tea, I have to admit, the movie was very entertaining. The blowing things up and Shia LaBeouf.
