It finally arrives.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 the movie.
Personally, I wasn't to anxious to see the movie. All Harry Potter movies were never live up to readers' expectation. Script wise.
That Friday night, just after work, a friend and I gave a shot getting the tix. Since its' premiere, the tix were almost impossible to get on-spot. Fortunately, we got the right timing, good seats.
8.15 PM. Movie began.
It started off with Voldemort acquiring Elder wand, and go crazy toying with it.
Dobby's final closure was also shown at the beginning movie. Continuing where we left of since Deathly Hallows part 1.
The beginning movie has shown that evil has risen and deaths will be inevitable.
I was like... this is it. The final closure. The ending of Harry Potter, once and for all.
When the book 7 was released, the story end there. Harry Potter, does not end there yet.
The movie is still anxiously waited by millions of aficionados.
I wouldn't tell the story here, just because I've been mucked around by emotional roller coaster years ago here.
Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger are Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
We all watched them grew. Just as we felt Harry, Ron and Hermione grew.
We saw them as these 11 years old kids, who were innocent, cheeky, full of adventure. Now, we see them as 20-something adult, maturing in their own ways.
Back to fiction..
JK Rowling has written a very elaborate, very detail story towards each character within each scene. The movie script, failed to deliver just that. I understood that it is impossible to include every character written in the book into the movie. The movie is about Harry Potter, so it stick to him. Focuses on Harry's journey to find horcruxes and eventually kill Voldemort.
The epic climax of the book should be on Battle of Hogwarts.
The movie, failed enormously to deliver. I couldn't feel the suspense, the bravery, the devastating battle. It failed to muck my emotion much further. This should be the epic battle. The most emotional draining scene on this installment. It failed to deliver, just that.
It failed to show Fred.
It does however show Snape. The most heartbreaking scene.
Snape's fatherly love towards Harry, just because he loves Lily too much.
I couldn't imagine this scene when reading the book. On movie, it successfully brought tears to my eyes (seriously). My heart jumped when this scene took place.
This scene is, by far, outshines every other scenes he's made. Alan Rickman, you're gold!
This last installment of Harry Potter movie, is by far has the best execution. In terms of cinematography. Script wise, it succeeds to focus on Harry Potter. It should stands on a center point, that is Harry. This how we connect to the character and no other character can steal his thunder, not even Fred.
I wouldn't say the movie rates a 10, but 8 is good enough for a final closure.
This is the end.
Harry, Ron and Hermione have found peace in their world.
Daniel, Rupert and Emma move on to their new characters beyond Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
The end of every ending.
Bye Harry, Ron, Hermione.

Musikal Laskar Pelangi
Musikal Laskar Pelangi 2 July 2011
Teater Jakarta, TIM, Jakarta.
Following the big success on last year's show, MILES and Riri Riza, collaborated with Edwin Gutawa and Jay Subiakto, present yet another most sought after Musikal Laskar Pelangi.
It started on a bright sunny Saturday arvo. Got the tix ready, then my friend and I head for a 2 hours lunch! :)
Our tix was at Class II, means no allocated seat number. 30mins before the show starts, the good seats are almost all taken. But we got the middle seat, which has pretty decent view to the stage below.
There was a slight glitch at the beginning of show. 15 minutes after the show began, it needed to stop for the next 30minute-ish due to technical difficulties. We heard banging and some loud noises behind the curtain. God knows what.
By 3 O'clock, the show continues.
No doubt this production is full-on. From the music, the props, the concept, the casts, the dances, the ensembles, everything.
One crucial point lacking from where I sat, it's the story.
Perhaps, knowing the story from original book and movie, you may not find the musical... satisfying.
The book and movie were so alive, so vibrant, so child-like colors. So pelangi (rainbow). However, this musical... I can feel the political agenda that some of these artisants may have intended to insert. This, ergo, not fun.
The originality of Laskar Pelangi's story, the kids from a simple Gantong Village, has been mucked around by 'too creative' Jakarta production. The prologue and epilogue of Ikal seems too deep for a Laskar Pelangi story. They seem to define the entire musical. The political sense of golden days PT Timah and the end of it.
The music! Another crucial segment of a musical. I wasn't sure whether it's because Edwin Gutawa on the orchestra, but the music seems quite monotone, and veeery slow. Few times I almost fell asleep due to boredom. I woke up only when my eyes were presented by cheerful music and energetic dances of the Laskar Pelangi kids.
Bu Muslimah, seems to be the lead character in this musical. Dira Sugandi as Bu Mus, someone who is supposed to be very humble, looks very Jakartan (if you know what i mean). Ikal (or the assumed character of Andrea Hirata) is too blah so he stuck in the background. Mahar and Kucai are surprisingly took the stardom on stage! Even Lintang, who had several solo performances, could not outshines Mahar or Kucai's single performance. The vocal performances, on the other hand, I think we all can agree they are splendidly done. Dira Sugandi, despite of her passable act, her voice is without doubt the star of the night.
I'm most amused by the ensemble performances and Mahar's solo performance. That kiddo surely has talent for spotlight!
And! The silhouette screen is very Jay Subiakto don't you think? It's almost as if I'm seeing a music video shoot. I don't say it's bad, I reckon the screens played nicely into this musical. They fit with the music and scenes. They subtly help creating the stage fantasy.
Overall, Musikal Laskar Pelangi is a concept that I think Miles and Riri Riza try to educate audience about Indonesia through Art. I don't complain about this, but it may be not be the piece I'm expecting to see at the moment.
I don't mind more of Musical productions from Miles though. I can see that whatever piece they produce, it will always be maximum effort. You can see it from the end result.
Musikal Laskar Pelangi, I like. But maybe not for a second time. :)

Sangkala 9/10
Sangkala 9/10, Musical Theater presented by Abang-None Jakarta community.
I didn't expect much of this musical, since all casts are not stage performers, theatrical wise.
The script however inspired by Batavia's history. It goes back to 1740, when VOC played Hitler to Chinese immigrants in Batavia. They eliminate Chinese civilians in Batavia, just because they crowd the population at that time.
In this musical, insert a love story between native Indonesian (pribumi betawi) and a Chinese girl.
Script wise, it's very intriguing.
It's very unfortunate that Abang-None were cast for this promising story.
Dancing or Theatrical performance, as said earlier, is not a mere dancing for TV shows or concerts.
The energy is different and at the same time showing the character's emotion.
On top of that, the pronunciation has to be strong and clear.
I can feel the energy of lead casts in Sangkala 9/10. This, however, was not enough.
I was very disturbed by their vocals, then how could I enjoy the performance?
As expected, the "successful" entertainer from Abang-None are the most interesting characters on this musical. These casts are Indra bekti and Iwet ramadhan. They are entertainer as profession, therefore, it's a given that they showing off talent of attracting audience's attention.
Other than these two, there is a sand artist to illustrate the story on big screen. This dude, Fauzan, is excellent. A one man show and musical instruments would do the trick, rather than Sangkala's entire casts.
All in all, Sangkala 9/10...
is entertaining show, but not theatrical entertaining.
For a musical, it doesn't have strong dance and vocal.
For a theater performance, entertaining would be overrated.
It's another musical snob episode.

The Mirror Never Lies
So, my Saturday is full of cinematique arts today.
I was escaping home and there I was at TIM with 5 hours to kill before the main event - Sangkala 9/10 Musical Theater. Of which I'll comment on next post.
To kill this 5 idle hours, I drove around Gambir, Thamrin and Sarinah. Just because, I couldn't find my way back to TIM after withdrawing some cash on ATM nearby. Long story short, I was lost.
That killed about an hour idle time.
Enough time for this movie I'm about to watch at TIM XXI - The Mirror Never Lies.
The hype of this movie isn't extravagant. All I know that the movie was taken at Wakatobi. Small islands between Sulawesi and Papua? Correct me if i'm wrong, since I'm more often than not is geographically incorrect.
I had no expectation of this movie.
There I went inside the cinema.
To my surprise, the beginning movie showed the sponsors. It was from PEMDA (state government) and WWF. A collaboration I might never see again to produce Indonesian movie! My expectation just rose.
The introduction of movie sounds to be a very deep storyline. It started with a little girl holds a mirror hanging onto her neck - a memorable token from his fisherman dad, who's lost at sea. This story is about her. Her mom, her bestfriend Lumo, and her Jakartan guest Paman Tudo. It's not a love story of man and woman, but a girl's longing of her dad, and find closure.
In between, nature showing off its beauty on every scene. Stealing each casts' thunder to fame.
I couldn't stop to feel at awe watching Wakatobi. The underwater beauty, the ocean's magnificent color, the God's painted skies. Subhanallah, Wakatobi is really God's given heaven on earth. Untouched and pure.
Not only the place, but the people! They're very simple people, with minds encircle on family and fishing. You know the expensive resort out in Mediterranean, where guest cottages are built above clear green ocean? Wakatobi people live on top of those clear green ocean too! On their simple wooden houses and it doesn't cost thousands of $$$.
Just 2 comments on overall movie,
1. What happened to paman tudo? Since no ending is given to him, I began to wonder what's the purpose of his character?
2. I STRONGLY DISAGREE about leaving (or even the idea of dropping) the mirror into the sea. Showing it on big screen means we can trash anything into the sea! It doesn't really give positive message to audience. I understood the message behind it all, but storyline aside, the mirror could ruin the corals. We def don't want that to happen!
Mirror aside, I reckon we should have this movie to become part of Visit Indonesia campaign. That is, if Indonesian cultural department has any consideration to spread Indonesian tourism equally.
This movie is definitely a must see.
Very refreshing view to Jakartans' daily mess.
go go go get your tickets now!

Michael Bay and Transformers
Paul Byrnes says it better.
Lovin' the review!
and yet, so true.
...
I realise that these are small things but they illustrate what's wrong in a wider sense. A lot of people put a great deal of effort into this movie to create great effects and exciting action but the whole thing is led by a man who directs by numbers. Michael Bay thinks that movies are a sandbox and, to some extent, they are. The trick is to create something meaningful from the tools in the sandbox. The first film did that; the second is a sandy imitation."

The impression of Megan Fox when I was watching the movie was well quoted by a toddler not older than 4 yo.
The scene in Egypt where Megan and Shia snuggling on top of Egypt ancient pyramid(?) and she wore only her camisole. The kid next to me suddenly said "yah, gak pake baju lagi deh" (not wearing clothes again).
Just then I realized, for movie about Robots, Transformers 2 isn't made for kiddies at ALL. Especially, with full-on Megan Fox posing for Maxim on every scene.
Though not my usual cuppa tea, I have to admit, the movie was very entertaining. The blowing things up and Shia LaBeouf.

Wicked
I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you...
It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have re-written mine
Wicked is off to big-screen, soon!
Wicked: the movie.
Wow..wonder how it'll turn up to be..
Can't wait!
Like the musical, before it came to Melbourne, I waited anxiously but patient. :)
This just the same.
Wicked: The Movie. I'll be waiting! :)

Slumdog Millionaire
I intended to watch the movie, and hence downloading it since morning.
I thought it's sorta bollywood... uhm, it's not. just the indian casts and settings. That dont make them bollywood, do they? It's british drama with indian casts and indian settings.
The movie is rather slow and the telling of the story is lacking intensity.
I wonder where it draws the line on genre.
It flashes back and forth from reality to the past and 3 different time frames.
The hot seat on 'who wants to be a millionaire?', which supposedly to be the center of Jamal Malik's life story begun.
Then there's his life journey struggling to live on his own with his brother on the street. A slumdog, they say.
And of course, the narration of everything came from the 'hot seat' in the prison.
Story's basically simple. The life of two brothers depending on each other living on the street. As stereotypically portrayed there's the good brother and the bad one. Jamal Malik, our lead, is of course the good brother, who ended up being honest citizen and ability to trust his guts in doing whatever he does. This surely doesn't do so well with some sneaky people belittling him.
His true mission is one.
Finding Latika. the lady of his life, since they were all little slumdogs.
(i hate to use the word, btw)
After all the gurneys and gutters to find her and to be with her.
One and the final ways to get was to join 'who wants to be a millionaire?' and Latika would watch him. Apparently, the quiz show is (or was) ridiculously popular over there!
The bitter life Jamal had to go through together with his brother and often times with Latika, was not much surprising as we see (maybe) on Hanung Bramantyo's ideal movie of Jakarta's street kids. This is what we are as neighboring nations.
The movie was OK, overall. The acting was good though. The kid, Dev Patal as Jamal Malik shall be the IT boy in his crowd, i reckon. You know, since he's good looking for his age, but too ethnic to caught hollywood's attention. I caught a glimpse of british accent of him, he's too perfect english can't be pure Hindi. I was right. IMDB proves it right! He's British born Indian. He was on skins too! no wonder I've seen him, when he was a pre-teen on skins! garsh he's grown.
Slumdog Millionaire is the buzz of British-Indian movie at the moment. Prolly, the next after Bend it like Beckham... but that's just my opinion. It's nominated (or won already?) BAFTA (The British Academy of Film and Television Arts).
UNFORTUNATELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
after all the good things I could say to it, one thing that still surprises me.
All indian movies, be it bollywood or wouldn't, it seems they couldn't help themselves without group dancing at the end of the movie! It ruins the sequence of the movie where it suppose to be dark, bitter and not entirely overjoyed happy ending. The dancing ruins it!
oh Dev Patal, you just leveled down your style, kid.

The Fall (2006)
one word.
Brilliant!
where to start?
the pictures are so unbelievably breath-taking. it's too picture-perfect, I began to wonder if they're greenscreen, instead of the real thing out the desert and clear blue skies.
the beginning movie was too weird to grasp. but you'll catch on eventually.
The little girl, Alexandria is a dolly-adorable, given her accent too! She acts naturally and surprisingly can still look so innocent on screen.
Lee pace is Roy the suicide man and Alexandria unexpectedly becomes friend, unknowingly how it began. The little girl's curiosity brought her to Roy's bed. There, they started the imaginary tale of 'the masked bandits'. The imagination collide with reality. In between, the bitter reality of the two was meshed into this fairy tale. Alexandria lost her dad to what she called 'angry people'. Roy lost his girlfriend, thus vow his life to vengeance and despair.
The story isn't solid enough to capture your attention. Luckily, the images are eyecatching-ly WOW your brains out. The beginning movie was too beautiful you almost forget what's the point of the story. The director was too focusing on beauty, he forgot to put more strength on the plot. Hence, towards the end, you feel that he might have gotten confused how to end it beautifully. Tragically, the end was too ordinary for such Wow-ing prelude.
It's still recommended, just out of pretty images and cutesy-ness.
and of course, for the effort of filming in more than a dozen countries!
oh and also! Kecak Dance (tari kecak) had a major appearance on The Fall!
it's shocking but really proud to see one of our ethnic dance is shown to the other part of the continent.
not that they don't know of it already.

Twilight
had no clue why previous post say twilight but the comments are all about edward cullen.
is he that gorgeous lookin' vampire?
no.
don't know whats gotten into me, too.
to trash the movie is like flowing water. piece a cake!
to list down the beauty of the movie is, well, stop at one. Edward Cullen.
Let's trash!
1st.
Edward Cullen is too effin pale! orange tan is always the go. WHITE PALE? cold.
2nd.
the lines are way to cheesy. too much effort on being romantic, but failed miserably. well, not entirely. proof? I fell for a sick masochistic lion. the one line I like.
and who wouldn't fly above thousand skies when someone says "you're part of my life now". uhm... too much eh? :D
3rd.
the ACTING! not one character is any good in acting. NOT ONE. how sad.
the leads don't have the chemistry. It's tween romance, at least Hillary Duff could nail it better with Chad Michael Murray than Rob Pattinson and Kirsten Stewart. Bad acting, Bad you!
4th.
the lack of emotion. maybe becos they're vampires? hmm... havent thought of that.
5th.
story line is too weak. But no surprise, novel adaption is usually like that. never explore further and tell story into deep.
NOW
the GOOD
1. the cars! never thought a volvo could look that sleek and classy!
whatelse?

Twilight Edward Cullen
How vampires got all touchy-feely
By Brendan O'Neill
With the hit film Twilight, the transformation of vampires from terrifying, bloodsucking killers to sensitive, emotionally-intelligent, misunderstood souls, is complete. How was Bram Stoker's legacy so drastically betrayed? More....
I couldn't help myself to smile reading the article. All the fuss about TWILIGHT has been finally answered tonight.
I put aside my beauty sleep on this friday night for few hours of Edward Cullen - the seemingly gorgeous vampire. When reading thoroughly the article, I have only realized that TWILIGHT the book is in fact TEENS VAMPIRE NOVEL!
I thought it'd be something more bram stroker's level...
eekkk NOT!
as for THE rob pattinson...
he resembles joaquin phonix (his curly and (almost) receding hair, and the eyes), while from the side looks like James Dean but with bigger jaw.
For looks: I give 6 out 10.
DON'T SCREAM LADIES! he just don't gimme the gugugagas like he did for every ladies. He don't gimme butterflies. simple as that. HAHAH *penting diklarifikasi ya? :D
For acting: *don't hit me* 4 out of 10.
He's lousy actor, still! even Dan Radcliffe played better for Harry Potter than him being Edward Cullen. Why I chose Dan R, because he did bad acting too with Harry Potter. So, Rob Pattinson as Edward? better catch the boat.
Twilight isn't really my cuppa tea. Luckily I don't watch it on cinema. :)
my two cents for Twilight: if you're into tween flicks or something to ease your brain, then go for it. Keep in mind, to my point of view the romance isn't quite there yet.
OK strike what I've just said.
Rob Pattinson as Edward Cullen has the looks 8 out of 10! BUT only for the last scene where he wears tux! and that soft deep voice....
i got all tingly... :P
I love the scenes towards the end.
and *the crowd yells* AWH AWH AWHHH...
kalo kata si eneng: "boooo gue mauuu digigit vampire ganteng gitu"
ah gue mah pake logika aja... dicium aja juga udah Alhamdulillah!
HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA
oh shit. the Edward venom has run in my vein!
i fell for a sick masochistic lion.

My Blueberry Nights
A movie by Wong Kar Wai.
the name's familiar, but never once see his work. My Blueberry Nights was my first. And, the hell with every 'top critics' think, I love My Blueberry Nights with its' simplicity and idiosyncrasy as an arthouse item. I love Jude Law as Jeremy. He switched his womenizer and suave british persona to an average bloke in New York with a touch of british accent, and that makes him much more delicious! =D
The story of My Blueberry Nights is simple and people may think its cliche.
Elizabeth (norah jones) played a brokenhearted lady in New York, crashed into a corner cafe owned by Jeremy (Jude Law). She happened to talk her hearts out to Jeremy, and connection developed between the two. it began with a jar of abandoned keys and a pan of abandoned blueberry pie. Then Lizzie took a roadtrip across the states and met people with their deepest sadness. In Memphis, she met Arnie, the lonely drunk abandoned by her gorgeous ex-wife Rachel Weisz. The trip continues to Nevada where she met Leslie (Natalie Portman), the spoiled daughter of a rich dad in Nevada who later is abandoned by the Dad. During the year where she parted with Jeremy and only hang-on to those several days of their rendezvous nights in Jeremy's cafe, Lizzie continues to update Jeremy by her letters. Until in the end, the only place she can go back to, was Jeremy's.
Overall, the script and story line is not deep for cannes item. However, to me, the cinematography scores the top rank of an arthouse item, without doubt! Darius Khondji was the cinematographer, apparently, he's the Great in his field. and he's part french. Why i considered him being french is significant factor?
Because now I know why My Blueberry Nights has slightly Amelie's ambiance. or a frenchy touch, if you to generalize it. :)
The colors they picked, are unique and expressive towards the emotion they wish to represent. I love when they cut the kissing scene and moved to a whole screen of melted vanilla ice cream on a blueberry pie. Yes, it's a femme-flick.
Those who enjoyed Across the Universe and Amelie, You'll love this pick.
My Blueberry Nights by Wong Kar Wai.

Laskar Pelangi.
Where to begin?
The book of the same title by Andrea Hirata. The belitung boy.
I've mentioned the book previously.
The idea is inspiring, however, in terms of writing, some parts i lost interest.
(FYI, and I'm not the only one who say this)
Now, THE MOVIE.
by the duet Miles and Riri Riza.
SPECTACULAR! Best Movie of the Year without a doubt! It makes Ayat-Ayat Cinta like shit. *pardon my french
I'm surprised how they visualize the book into an awesome movie. Well, lets skip the added commercial scenes to spice things up. by that I meant, Tora's.
The movie overall can really play your emotion. Hands up who cried during AAC's dying scene? Trust me. They're nothing compared to the ENTIRE scenes of LP. I hold my breath just to hold my eyes from crying. Weird, I know. but it works. *LOL
and the place. Belitung.
OH. MON. DIEU.
No wonder the Dutch invaded us for hundreds of years. HEY, Indonesia itu indah ya! SANGAT.
We have nature that beyond the imaginable. It's very unfortunate that we locals don't even see it and worst, never preserve it to be our precious treasure. pity us.
The beat-up shack they called school can look so artistic on the land of belitung. Don't believe? See the movie. Look closely. Who would think that beat-up shack can look so graceful under the bright blue sky without any smokes of pollution around. The boys Laskar Pelangi and the teacher, chasing rainbows. With such clear sky, you'd find easy to say hi to rainbows up above. With those clean white sand, who would wanna wear shoes everyday? The nature hold you tight with its' beauty. on the other hand, people torn it apart without loving it back. i'm off topic.
Best scenes for me were:
-) Ikal lost A-ling and the whole world feels like crumbled down (and literally, that it is - i.e. the items at the shop fell down! oh the heartbreak! *LOL)
-) the Asmat dance, and how Mahar cleverly not wear the 'itchy necklace' and be the head of tribe. all his eccentrics made me laugh anyway. :)
-) Lintang told Ikal why he went to school (this is after bu Mus took leave of absent from school and school's out for a week). *sob sob
-) Lintang holding his sister and be the head of the family. Farewelled the school and everyone. *tears!
A quote I love from the movie, of Pak Har's:"Jangan cepat menyerah. Hiduplah untuk memberi sebanyak-banyaknya, bukan menerima sebanyak-banyak nya"
The words where it hits.
Jangan cepat menyerah.
I'm not saying personally about me. But when you hear the words and you see those kids (as they were in their characters), you'd feel like ten of thousands of fists hitting you at the same time. nyesek bok! Those kids - mahar, ikal, and lintang - can bring out the characters so well. I'm in love with mahar with his eccentric. I'm torn for Lintang because of his fate. and I envy ikal, for being ikal (having Lintang to forever inspire him).
I take my words. I salute Andrea Hirata.
and Miles.
and Riri Riza.
for reminding us that 'there are less unfortunates than us out there. why whinge constantly!' =D
outweigh the good than the bad.
Be Lintang. keep the spirit alive within yourselves and to others.
Be 'lil Mahar. eccentric don't always mean weirdo.
Be Ikal. keep focusing on the aim, and you'll reach it eventually.
menarilah dan terus tertawa
walau dunia tak seindah surga
bersyukurlah pada Yang kuasa
cinta kita di dunia
Nidji made the perfect ending.
it's like mengejar matahari all over again, the hit song as the closing credit... you'd feel your emotion being muck around. the drama flashback from where it began.

Japanese 101 vs Engrish
"He Shite Ito?"
it translates: "can I fart?"
forget the fact that NO-ONE would actually ask the question. focus on the comedy it represents.
Japanese pronounce english Hesitate as Heshiteto.
"He Shite Ito?" itself is a rather peculiar question, but to create a word link to the english hesitate, the sentence is surely spot-on.
consider this, "He shite ito?. the most brazen person in the entire world wouldn't even consider farting in public, therefore, s/he hesitates."
*rolling on the floor laughing!!*
Now thats Japanese 101 and Engrish for you! Learn something?
Thanks for the comedy, Ayukawa Misako.

knowing it's not just any other afternoon...
when i woke up yesterday, I thought it would be like any other Saturday. Boy, I was wrong.
that Saturday, I accidentally walked pass a Hollywood film set on my way for lunch! and I'm not in LA!
yes yes yes, i am that psyched. call it what you want, It's something that pretty cool to see. I saw a few of local filming, but of course, the hollywood tag makes everything totally different to experience. hahaha
The street is transformed into something more American-y, somehow. When you've been around melbourne for quite a while, you'd notice the city is always clean! at least, decent enough to live. Whilst yesterday, kaboom! trash is everywhere on the street and there was this smoke machine thingy to make up the 'american' look. well you know, since we don't have the underground steam pipe anywhere around the city.
It was pretty exciting.
A lot of people were taking photos, of course I took a couple too! Not very good ones though, since I took 'em while waiting the tram and can't be bothered to stand up to take some clear shots. The 2nd pic is the cameos waiting for the director to shout 'action'. It's in the middle of winter and I'm thinking.. the movie isn't? Girls are wearing sleeveless and shorts! Well, all the things you would do to get famous, huh? =D
Unfortunately, didn't get to see nic cage. Although! i didn't know that it was nic cage's film set! LOLs. even if I knew at the time, i wouldn't wanna wait long just to get a shot of nic cage either.
people live in LA prolly had enough of this kinda thing huh. It's like you're in Jakarta and saw our so-called celebs walk around the malls and we couldn't care less of who they are. HAHAHA
when 'knowing' (thats the movie) comes out and I see the scene of where these two pics took place, I might scream the bloody murder and shout 'I WAS THERE I WAS THERE!!'
So. Who's going to the movie with me?? ;)
ps: some good shots of the set on the local papers http://www.theage.com.au/photogallery/2008/06/22/1214009181700.html

spandau ballet
Funny how it seems
Always in time, but never in line for dreams
Head over heels, when toe to toe
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
I bought a ticket to the world
But now Ive come back again
Why do I find it hard to write the next line
When I want the truth to be said
I know this much is true
With a thrill in my head an a pill on my tongue
This is the sound of my soul
This is the sound
Always slipping from my hands
Sands a time of ts own
Take your seaside arms and write the next line
Oh I want the truth to be known
It's way past jadul. outfit? hello?!
but Manhattan's story can even orb that dude's 80s look (which should be 60s!) to a fabulous 21st century. I blame it on the ugly.
and I mean, ugly betty.
my heart goes ba bump bump bump for Gio!!
all the gugugagaass!! yeah. it's all junior high again.
oh. if you can't handle this kooky looking guy and the outfit, and the music. Will.I.Am and Fergie did the remake for 50 first dates. Betcha love it.

Mari Menikah!
Yang komersilnya berjudul Get Married! menjadi Mari Menikah!
Jadi lebih enak di dengarnya kah? :)
Mungkin ironisnya disitu...
Tunggu dulu.
Judul boleh barat layaknya Ashton Kutcher menikahi Brittany Murphy di hadapan bapak penghulu pastur. Tapi konsep cerita? yah, di persingkat, yang paling bule di film ini cuma si mbak2 pencuci rambut (why she has to be bule?) dan si mas2 bule-indo nan kaya dan ganteng pujaan hati nirina zubir. They are the bules you would see in the movie, at most. Selebihnya? Mari Menikah sangat Jakarta sekali!
Nirina.. surprisingly, sangat sederhana. She's the girl next door, without the glam make-up. Love her! but love aming dan ringgo at most!!!
Ato seperti yang gue pernah denger dari seorang komedian, you have to find the funny in everything. and BAM! there you go. you get "Get Married!" The movie.
Kalo begini jadinya, gue sangat kangen Jakarta!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the Darjeeling Limited

The darjeeling limited.
you don't acknowledge big on the casts, the story, nor the fact of everything Indian.
you do however must understand Wes Anderson's visionary of a film.
A Jack who got played by his ex (Natalie Portman).
***Psst, you get to see Nat pose nude in this short-film. Boys, be cool.***
Scene terhenti setelah mereka berdua menikmati Paris.
Mengejar kereta. Satu kereta dengan nama "The Darjeeling Limited". di India. Berlari. Mengejar Kereta.
(hehe biar seru diulang ulang.)
Disitu muncul................ Adrian Brody.
He got on the train.
Even til then, audience are left unknowingly of where is this going and what's this had to do with Hotel Chavelier in PARIS???
Penonton..... bingung.
Sukses.
The door compartment says Whitman.
There, Peter Whitman (Adrian Brody) entered. Fast forward, three men -- Jack (Jason Schwartzman), Peter (A.Brody), Francis (Owen Wilson) are the Whitman bros. Persuaded by the eldest, Francis, to take on a "Spiritual Journey" for the three bros to rekindle their brotherhood, which had been lost a year ago following a passing of someone dear.
Why India? Although might refer to the added spiritual means of the journey, but there's another reason behind it all. A very sentimental reason.
Mungkin yang bener2 diliat dari sisi sinematografinya, which I wont include due to limited knowledge of oneself in film-art. =D
Anyway, karakter si tiga bersaudara ini keliatan banget bedanya. Si kakak, Francis, sangat bossy dan controlling over his brothers. Si tengah, Peter, dont wanna be boss around by Francis, and cold-feet over his new status as a dad. Si bungsu, Jack, the unlucky in love.
Theyre there for each other now. Awwh. =D
The bags were previously owned by the brothers' dad. Having them on the journey meant carrying the past into their lives.
And after, they left the bags intentionally on a stranded Indian terminal, ready to move on with their lives. leaving the past behind.
Francis: "Dad's bags aren't gonna make it."
And they just deserted the bags on the Indian terrain, and wave farewell.
Farewell to the past, maybe.
The Kinks sama The Rolling Stones sangat mendukung jalannya cerita.
Intinya, Gue suka ni film! Santai dan Menyenangkan..
